Biography


     Shobanadevi Rajendran serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics and Statistics, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, where she mainly teaches Gender Economics, Labour Economics, Demographic Economics, Microeconomics and Statistics. Since 1993 she has been functioning as a teacher, trainer, researcher and activists in gender and human rights issues. Her research interests are mainly on gender, labour, and women in politics. Since 2004 she has been offering a course on women’s rights mainly on gender concept & gender roles for the certificate & the Diploma courses in Human Rights provided by the Center for the Study of Human Rights, University of Peradeniya.

She has published number of research articles and books nationally and internationally. She was graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1991, and completed her master’s degree at the same University. And also she completed the Online Summer course on Gender Perspectives In Economic Analysis: Macroeconomics, Public Finance, Trade and Investment, American University, Washington, D.C. in 2018.

She has successfully completed Short Term Consultant-“Preparing the Education Sector” Development Program (ADB Project) Ministry of Education, Isurupaya, Battaramulla. In 2006, Member of working Group “National Plan of Action Social Development of Plantation, Community” Ministry of Estate Infrastructure & Livestock Development 2006/07, Short term Consultant Ministry of Industries, Sports Hindu Cultural & Education (Tamil) Central Province Council ,2011&,2012. She is the Team Member (Gender specialist) of the National Human Development Report 2019.

She Successfully completed International Visitor Leadership Program on “Women and Entrepreneurship” organised by United States Department of State in 2016.

A proposal titled “Women Entrepreneurship Program for Rural Women” submitted to the Federal Assistance Award-Individual, U.S department of State selected for founding. The project was successfully completed in three stages 2017, 2018 & 2019. Moreover, she has been giving her service as a trainer to several governmental and non-governmental organizations. The topics generally covered are: concept of gender, human rights of women, child rights, women leadership and increasing women political representation.
