Biography:
  • Mr. AshvinWickramasooriya, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography, was attached to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau as a Trainee Geologist (from March, 1997 to August, 1998), Department of Geography, University of Peradeniya as a Research Assistant in the Coastal Geographical Information Systems Project (from September, 1998 to August, 2000), South Eastern University of Sri Lanka as a Lecturer in Earth Sciences (from June, 2001 to October, 2008) and as a Senior Lecturer in Earth Sciences (from October, 2008 to July, 2013). Mr. Wickramasooriya had completed his secondary education at Dharmaraja College, Kandy (from 1978 to 1990). He entered to the University of Peradeniya in 1993 and completed the B. Sc. Geology Special Degree in 1997 and then obtained his M. Phil Degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya in 2008. Then he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Statistics at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya in 2010. After successfully completed the Teaching in Higher Education course conducted by the Staff Development Center, University of Colombo, he was awarded as an Accreditation as a Teacher in Higher Education by the Staff & Educational Development Association (SEDA), United Kingdom in 2003. His fields of research interests are Natural disasters, Coastal geomorphology, Geoinformatics, Surface and groundwater hydrology, etc.
