  • Shantha Hennayake, is a Professor in Geography.

    He received his school education at Tirukwanketiya Primary School in Rathnapura, Malwattawala Maha Vidyalaya in Wellawaya, Dumbara Vidyalaya in Teldeniya, Bandarapola Maha Vidyalaya, and St. Thomas College Matale and Harlan Community High School in Iowa, USA. He obtained his BA and MA from University of Peradeniya respectively in 1982 and 1986 and his Ph.D. in Political Geography from Syracuse University, New York, USA in 199O.

    Prof. Hennayake is a Political Geographer with research interests in Geography of Nationalism, Geopolitics, Philosophy of Geography and professional skills in coducting Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA). His major academic contribution to the discipline of Political Geography is the development of an alternative theory of nationalism identified as Interactive Ethnonationalism.

    His hobbies are travelling, photography, and listening to music.
