Born in 1968 in Maho, Sri Lanka. Completed primary education at Nika/ Ambogama Vidayalaya in Maho (Mahawa at Yapahuwa electorate in Kurunegala district) and secondary education Delgoda Kalyani Pradeepa Vidyayatana Pirivena in Gampaha. Obtained B. A. (Hons) Degree in History at University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, and followed the postgraduate studies and Doctorate in University of Peradeniya and University of Kelaniya in respectively.
