Mode of Operation

The 1st International Conference on the Social Sciences and the Humanities (ICSSH - 2011) organized by the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka is a two day conference which will operate under the key theme 'Knowledge Society or Knowledge for Society? Social Sciences and Humanities in 21st Century Sri Lanka' and eight subthemes. Depending on the volume and type of submissions, several concurrent thematic sessions will be held under each sub-theme.

Scholars wishing to present a paper at the conference should send in the titles and extended abstracts of their papers to the conference secretariat (please see below for details). All the extended abstracts received in time and in conformity with the submission guidelines will be forwarded to relevant reviewers who will make the final decision. By the stipulated date, the Conference Secretariat will notify all submitters whether or not their abstracts have been accepted. Those whose abstracts have been accepted should duly prepare and send in their full papers which will be considered for publication in a post-conference journal. All accepted extended abstracts will be published in the Conference Proceedings. 



Sessions

The Thematic Sessions will operate under the following sub-themes.

  1. Knowledge, Equity and Development
  2. The Environment
  3. Governance, Rights and the Discourse of Development
  4. Transforming and Transformative Education
  5. Conflict, Mediation, Security and Human Well-being
  6. Sri Lanka - in the Region and in the World
  7. Revisionist Representations - History, Arts, the Media
  8. Technology and Social Transformation

    9. Note: The sub-themes are meant to provide structure to the Conference and are not meant to be restrictive.

    Posters falling under the above sub-themes can also be presented at the poster session that will run for both days of the conference.
