PHY 204 - Greek Philosophy
The course traverses the following sketch.
- Ancient Greek thinking based on mythology and religion was replaced by Thales the father of Greek philosophy by advancing his idea of an inquiry concerning the nature of things.
- This method of independent reasoning was further developed by the pre-Socratics.
- The Sophists turned away from the notion of “ nature of things” and advanced that of “man and value”.
- Socrates, Plato and Aristotle made fuller and systematic philosophical thinking.
- After Aristotle, Greek philosophy declined.
