PSY 301 - Buddhist Psychology I

 

 

Pre-requisite - PSY 101, PSY 208

This paper deals with the concept of mind and mental activity in Buddhism. The topics include, nature of the structure of the mind; Feelings, emotions and dispositions; Mind as the creator of the world; The processes of sensation, perception and conceptual proliferation; A comparative study of Buddhism and Western analysis of mind.

Pre-Buddhist thoughts on mind: Atman and Manas: Prakrti and Purusha, Doctrine of No-self: Hua-yen Buddhism: Buddhist Analysis of Mind: Perception: Concept and Reality: Theory of Mind Only: Emotions: Feelings: Sexuality: Sublime Feelings: Altruistic Feelings: Doctrine of Karma, Buddhist Psychology in relation to the psychological teachings of Freud, Jung, William James, Viktor Frankl and Erich From.
