History

An Education Unit that facilitates, supports, coordinates, and sustains the educational activities undertaken by the Departments of Study is a requirement, long overdue, in the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya. For the first time in the history of the Faculty of Arts in the University of Peradeniya is proposed hereunder the rationale, the objectives, and the particulars that pertain to the proposed Arts Education Unit.

The "Arts Education Unit" (ARTSED) proposes to address issues that directly relate to the improvement of the quality of the academic programmes as well as the employment needs of the Arts graduates. The Human Resource Development component of the HETC project has agreed to fund this initiative for two years and will, thereafter, be supported and funded by mechanisms in place within the University of Peradeniya. It will seek the support and coordinate with the Staff Development Centre of the University of Peradeniya and curriculum development committees in the University and Arts Education Units of other Universities in the country.
