The mission of the Department of Education is to develop committed and competent professionals who can withstand future challenges and serve the nation.

Excellence in Teacher Education, research and creative thinking in Humanities and Social Sciences for the betterment of individuals and society vision.

The Department of Education is the pioneer in the introduction of post graduate diploma in physical Education in Sri Lanka in 2000. In addition to departmental academic programmes, this building is being utilized for the conduction of International seminars, local research seminars and collaboration programmes with the MOE and provincial Ministries.

In the Future, with the recruitment of qualified academic members, the department hopes to re-establish as a Faculty, create new more short term courses and diversification programmes to address to the requirements of the teacher education system in Sri Lanka.
