-------My Vision------- I believe that a university teacher has two equally important tasks. One on is imparting knowledge and the other is seeking it. My vision as a university teacher is equally divided between the two. However, I believe that seeking knowledge for the sake of knowledge is of limited value and helps accumulation of knowledge only in its very narrow sense. There for I trust that if the knowledge gained through research is knowledge to the academia and university teacher has no interest in taking his confident only to the people that research is of no value. Dissemination of knowledge I believe is fundamental in achieving the following two objectives. 1. Expansion of knowledge in general 2. Generation curiosity, which is essential for knowledge seeking. Dissemination of knowledge is an important part of my university academic work according to my vision as a university teacher It is a delight to compile this introduction which includes my commitment to institutional improvement throughout my days as an academic, at the University of Peradeniya from (1999-2001 Temporary) 2001 to present. I got the Bachelor degree in History (Special) at the University of Peradeniya and Master of Social Science degree in History in 2004 from the University of Kelaniya. Further, I got the Doctor of Philosophy in History from the University of Madras in India in the year 2009. The experience gained by serving the University of Peradeniya and also by participating in various historical research and occasions in different universities and institutions around the world, empowered me to contribute towards the improvement of my own institution for a time period of nearly (more than) two decades. As a professor in History, I have conducted various lecture courses in undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as in the external degree program at the University of Peradeniya. These lectures have offered an in-depth knowledge on South Asian History and Historiography. In the national level, I have actively been involved in the revision programs of school syllabi and gave my maximum contribution to the development of the History syllabus for Sri Lankan schools. In addition, I willingly conduct training programs for school teachers in different regions of the country. Both A/Ls and O/Ls school children were also educated and developed by me to view Sri Lankan history from different angles. Apart from that, I have committed to broadening the History subject through various digital media like television and radio. I believe that through different broadcast media history can be popularized among the general public. I have also conducted many international researches in diverse countries such as India, China, Ireland, Vietnam, and Thailand. In addition, I was appointed as an examiner of Ph.D. thesis evaluation at local as well as international universities more than 300 times. I also supervised many MPhil and MA theses at the postgraduate level.
