University of Peradeniya is the oldest and largest public higher education institute in Sri Lanka. The University comprises of nine faculties; Agriculture, Allied Health Sciences, Arts, Dental Sciences, Engineering, Management, Medicine, Science, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences and three postgraduate institutes offers leading to Bachelor’s, masters and Doctoral degrees. Total student enrolments for the university is 16,000 and the academic staff strength is around 750. University entrance for the students is based on their academic performances in the examination of General Certificate of Advanced Level. Being one of the best free education providers in the country, there is high competition among students to gain the university entrance. From its inception in 1942 university staff, both academic and administrative, contributed to promote its standard to today’s level. The university ranked 1st in the webometrics 2017 in Asia.In 2017, University of Peradeniya has been ranked in the 1st place in Sri Lanka for academic excellence. In 2013, University of Peradeniya was ranked no. 1 in Sri Lanka in research by Researchgate. In 2010, according to University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), University of Peradeniya ranked 1426th in the world. It is the only Sri Lankan university ranked under URAP. The university has established international relationships since its earliest days. In the recent past, the University has become a partner in a large number of staff (academic and non-academic) and student exchange programs, collaborative research, joint postgraduate programs. With the aim of strengthening those collaborations, International Affairs Office (IAO) was established in 2012.
