Uppsala University was founded in 1477, making it the oldest university in the Nordic countries with a living cultural environment and fantastic student life. There are 53,000 students at Uppsala University and 6,500 employees. The University has a strong research focus, to which all nine faculties contribute within both pure research as well as within innovations. The internationalization policy of Uppsala University actively promotes an international perspective in all activities but strives to strengthen the connection between researchers, educators and students
Uppsala University is a member of several different international networks around the world. We formed the U4 network along with Ghent University, The University of Göttingen and The University of Groningen in 2008, a strategic partnership between the four universities. We are also a part of The Matariki Network of Universities, Coimbra Group, The Guild as well as Sanord and The Baltic University Programme.
The Division for Internationalisation was created in 2019 to strengthen the university’s internationalisation process. It has two unit, one focused on international mobility, one focused on international collaboration projects. The latter one – the Unit for Global Partnership – is responsible for Erasmus+ KA2 projects. The Team is leading 4 capacity building projects (EMISHA, EVENT, LISTO, EASTEM) as the coordinator and is managing Uppsala University’s contributions to 9 capacity building projects in which Uppsala University is one of the EU partners. International collaboration is a means and a strategy for achieving higher quality research and education at Uppsala University.
We see capacity building projects as strategic partnership collaborations with universities outside of Europe and as a key step in putting the Swedish National Strategy for Internationalization (SOU 2018:78) into practise.
The IncEdu project ties in very well with the internationalization agenda of our Student Affairs Department which is a part of the central administration. Apart from the Unit for Global Partnership, the Study Counsellors and Career Office will be involved in the project activities. The Career Office and its study counsellors provide guidance and service to students in matters concerning study, career and special pedagogical support. This include also staff and services directed at helping students with disabilities. The disability coordinators coordinate special pedagogical support to students with disabilities and give advice about special pedagogical support, inclusive education and equal opportunities to other departments and faculty staff.
