The Department holds the Annual Ludowyk Memorial Lecture in honour of the late Professor E.F.C. Ludowyk, the first Professor of English in the University of Ceylon. The lecture was made possible when Dr. Ian Goonetileke, a friend of Ludowyk, donated the royalties which he received for posthumously publishing Ludowyk’s autobiography Those Long Afternoons to the English Department to institute this lecture. Dr Goonetilleke also donated a Shakespeare Prize in memory of Ludowyk with the rest of the proceeds
The Professor E.F.C. Ludowyk Memorial lecture will be held on 4th of September 2019 at 4.30 p.m. at the Senate Room, University of Peradeniya.
