The Department of Geography at the University of Peradeniya is thrilled to announce the
successful completion of the AHEAD World Bank project, which has significantly enhanced our
teaching and research capabilities. This project has equipped our laboratories with cutting-edge
technology, allowing us to provide our students with the best possible learning experience.
Key Achievements:
- Enhanced Laboratory Infrastructure: We received 50 desktop computers, 50 UPS units, 50 computer tables and chairs, 60 network points, and an AC unit for our Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Laboratories. Additionally, two total stations were acquired for land surveying practicals, and dehumidification equipment was installed in the Surveying Laboratory.
- Improved Efficiency and Capacity: These new resources have drastically reduced the time constraints in our laboratories, leading to smoother workflow and increased utilization. This allows us to accommodate a larger number of students for practical sessions, fostering a more dynamic learning environment.
- Increased Student Intake: As a direct result of the project's success, we have been able to increase our regular student intake from 50 to 75, with plans to continue this expansion for the BSc Honors program in Geographical Information Science.
Project Recognition:
We are proud to announce that the AHEAD project was officially recognized at a conference
held in BMICH Colombo. Professor Tilak Bandara, Head of the Department of Geography,
presented the project's benefits and received a certificate of completion on December 13, 2023.
This project marks a major step forward for the Department of Geography. We are committed to
utilizing these resources to provide our students with the highest quality education and cultivate
the next generation of skilled geographers.
