The team members of the Erasmus+ CBHE project University Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Indian Ocean Rim (UN4DRR) visited the PGIHS, University of Peradeniya on October 5-7, 2023, during the final event EVENT. The delegates also visited the Department of Geography, and HOD Prof. Tilak Bandara and checked the lab equipment (see attachment) received from the project to the Department of Geography through PGIHS. The overall aim of the UN4DRR project is to introduce courses related to disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), integrating GIS and RS applications as a significant part of the course content. The project, is funded by the EU, is coordinated by the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Belgium. And the consortium has other 8 partner universities: 3 from Europe (Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain; University of Nicosia, Cyprus; University of Zagreb, Croatia); and 5 from Asia (University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo; The Maldives National University; IPB University, Indonesia; and University of Syiah Kuala, Indonesia). The project partnership with the University of Peradeniya is carried out by the PGIHS and coordinated by Professor Rekha Nianthi, Department of Geography. Under this project, the team introduced a new study program to the PGIHS on disaster risk reduction and GIS+RS. Subasinghe.
