  2. For Temporary Lecturers
    • To coordinate workshops on teaching skills, especially focused on leading discussions with special emphasis on effective questioning skills, picking supplementary material for discussions, leading group work, lesson planning etc.
    • To organize workshops for skills development and enhancement focused on communication skills, teamwork, and presentation skills.
    For Temporary Lecturers
    • Interactive sessions for trouble shooting, problem solving and sharing knowledge for probationary lecturers who have undergone staff development training, to discuss their experiences applying knowledge and skills gathered there.
    • Annual workshops geared towards improving English language competency. The workshops will be focused on using English in academic settings.
    • Workshops on lesson planning: how to plan lessons for each topic to ensure active student participation, time management, and how to create an interactive and positive learning environment for students.
    • Regular workshops to introduce Course Management Systems (CMS) such as Moodle and a forum to share the experience and techniques to use Moodle, effectively. Also organize workshops to introduce social networking sites and how they could be used for teaching and learning purposes.
    • Regular discussions / forums on applying for fellowships and scholarships that will enable probationary lecturers to pursue postgraduate education.
    For Senior Lecturers
    • Regular forum discussions on applying for teaching and research fellowships and research grants.
    • Workshops on creating portfolios required for promotions.
    • Permanently established writing clinics that will provide writing support and feedback on journal articles, book chapters, conference presentations and grant applications.
    For Professors
    • To organize regular information sessions about opportunities, especially international opportunities, for knowledge dissemination and mentoring.

  3. Special Programmes and General Activities
    • Undergraduate study tours, travel for research purposes, training and internships outside the campus.
    • Study programs of students who are abroad on scholarships granted under MoUs with the University of Peradeniya.
    • The organization of job fairs and to create awareness of current trends in the job market.
    • Support the departments to organize Internships for students.
    • Preparation of students for foreign training.
    • Regular workshops/brainstorming sessions on how to use/adapt the classroom resources available on the Internet and how to incorporate computer-based learning, E-learning etc in the humanities and the social sciences.
    • Regular workshops on bilingual teaching, teaching in English, and how to teach in English for students who have had Sinhala/Tamil medium instruction in primary and secondary school.
    • Workshops sessions to assist the department of studies on teaching and assisting Differently-Abled students.
    • Overcome practical difficulties relating to continuous assessment schemes.
    • Identify the means to engage in student-centered teaching for large classes (100-600+ students).
    • To liaise with the Staff Development Centre of the University to design and conduct regular staff development programs for non-academic staff as well as technical staff in the departments of study and the Faculty administration office.
    • To evaluate periodically the educational and training needs of the academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty and to recommend areas of training.
