Introduction
Along with other Departments of the Faculty of Arts, the Department of Classical Languages
joins the Centre for Distant and Continuing Education of the
University of Peradeniya (CDCE) to offer a distant BA
program in Sanskrit .
The Department of Classical Languages has prepared the current
curriculum by incorporating constructive tendencies
in Sanskrit studies and in order to keep abreast of high-quality
Distant and Continuing Education Programs in the rest of the
world.
In preparing
the current curriculum, the Sanskrit faculty of the Department of
Classical Languages has taken into account both the dimensions of knowledge
and practice that students obtain and frequent obstacles plus potential
pitfalls encountered by them. Further, suggestions from
Sanskrit scholars as well as students were sought regarding the
ways of improving the curriculum and thereby optimizing the
Distant BA Program to increase student employability.
