1. Ven. Muwaetagama Gunananda is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department. He has B.A. Honours and M.Phil. from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and Ph.D. from the Delhi University. Ven. Gnanananda teaches and researches on Pali language and literature and origins of Mahayana.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Prof. G.A. Somaratne is a Senior Lecturer. He has B.A. Honours from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, M.A. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University, U.S.A. Dr. Somaratne teaches and researches on early Buddhism, Buddhist rituals, world religions, and Pali.

Venerable Dr.Bamunugama Shanthawimala is a senior lecturer and has B.A.honours from University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka, M.A. from University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka and Ph.D. from University of Banaras, India. Venerable Shanthawimala teaches and researches Buddhist Philosophy and other world religions,Social and Political issues,Buddhist Monasticism and Pali

 
4. Ven. Dr. Makadawara Ananda is a Senior Lecturer and has B.A. Honours from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and Ph.D. from University of Delhi, India. Ven. Dr. Ananda teaches and researches on history of Buddhist thought, Mahayana Buddhism, Pali and Pali Vamsa literature.

 
5. Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula is a Senior Lecturer, and has B.A. Honours and M.A. from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Ven. Rahula teaches and researches on Pali language and literature and Abhidhamma studies.

 
6. Mr. R.G.D. Jayawardena is a Senior Lecturer, and has B.A. and M.A. from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Mr. Jayawardena teaches and researches on the history of Buddhism and Buddhist art and culture.
 
7. Mr. Sumana Ratnayaka is a Senior Lecturer, and has B.A. Honours from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, and M.Litt. from University of Oxford, U.K. Mr. Ratnayaka teaches and researches on early Buddhism, Buddhist philosophy, and Pali.

 

 

The Visiting Lecturers:

 

Professor Emeritus of Pali and Buddhist Studies P.D. Premasiri (Retired in December 2006). He holds B.A. Honours from University of Ceylon, B.A. Honours and M.A. from the Cambridge University, U.K., and Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii, U.S.A. Professor Premasiri teaches and researches on Buddhist philosophy, Buddhist ethics, Buddhist psychology, comparative studies on Buddhism and Western philosophy and religions, and Pali.

Ven. Muthukeliyawe Indarathana is a temporary lecturer of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, and he holds B. A. Honours from University of Peradeniya , Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Open University of Sri Lanka, Royal Pandit Degree form Sri Lanka Oriental Studies. Ven. Indarathana teaches and researches on Pali Text, Early Mahayana philosophical traditions and World religions. He is also a visiting lecturer of Buddhist and Pali University , Homagama , Sri Lanka .
