Department of Political Science

Dr. K.H. Jayasinghe was one of the pioneering figures in the fields of economics and political science in Sri Lanka. He completed his B.A. at the University of Ceylon in 1950 and began his academic career in 1959 as an Assistant Lecturer in Economics. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of London. In recognition of his scholarly dedication and teaching excellence, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1966. He later transitioned to the field of Political Science and served as Head of the Department during two terms, from 1981 to 1983 and again from 1985 to 1986, playing a pivotal role in shaping the department's academic direction. Following a distinguished academic career, he retired in 1992. His enduring contributions to interdisciplinary scholarship and institutional leadership continue to inspire successive generations within the Department of Political Science at the University of Peradeniya.
