Dr. W.A. Wiswa Warnapala was a distinguished Sri Lankan academic who joined the academic career after completing a B.A. (Hons) in Economics at the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya in 1964, followed by an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1967 and a Ph.D. from the University of Leeds in 1970. As a Professor and later Head of the Department of Political Science at Peradeniya, he played a central role in developing political science as a discipline in Sri Lanka. His scholarly contributions were extensive, with several books in English and Sinhala, and numerous academic articles on Sri Lankan politics, parliamentary governance, and institutional development.
