Madhavie serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, where she teaches Money, Banking and Financial Markets, Economics of Entrepreneurship and Credit Management, and Risk Management to undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also has experience teaching Macroeconomics, International Economics, International Trade, Comparative Economics, and Political Economy. She coordinates undergraduate dissertations in the department. Since 1994, she has served as a lecturer at this university. Her research interests center on Banking and Entrepreneurship, particularly women's entrepreneurship. She is also interested in Fisheries Management and Agri-entrepreneurship. She has published numerous research papers and abstracts on various aspects of entrepreneurship, as well as articles on fisheries. She has also published a book on banking risk management (Sinhala). She reviews articles and book chapters in these research fields. She received an Australia awards fellowship to study at Griffith University in Queensland in 2016. She has served in several national positions, including Chairperson, Coconut Cultivation Board; Chairperson, Kuprula Management Fund; Chairperson, Kurunegala Plantation; Chairperson (Acting), Coconut Development Authority; and Chairperson, Kandurata Development Bank. She has also served as Executive Director of the Regional Development Bank. Furthermore, she has served on several boards of directors, including the Coconut Research Institute, the Fragmentation Board, and the Bank of Ceylon. Beyond her academic interests, she serves as a positive-thinking and attitude-changing lecturer for schools and government offices. She is also a speaker, lyricist, poet, short-story writer, and song reviewer.
