Awards and Medals

The Department of Economics and Statistics proudly celebrates the academic excellence of its students. Hence, the best performing students of the department are honoured with the following awards and medals each year, at the General Convocation.


1000 Level

I.D.S. Weerawardena Memorial Prize for Economics
Award to the student who shows greatest competence in Economics (highest Aggregate Marks for ECN 1001 and ECN 1002), provided he/she obtains at least 60% marks at the first attempt.

Special Arts Degree Examination

Gate Mudaliyer N. Canaganayagam Birth Centenary (1992) Memorial Prize
The Prize shall be awarded to the best student in term of the total marks obtained at the Special Arts Degree Examination in Economics as the Special subject provided that the class obtained is not below an upper second.
The award shall be given annually to a student who qualifies to graduate with a B.A. Economics Special Degree, having the highest aggregate marks for courses specifies by the Department of Economics and Statistics (100 to 400 Level) provided the candidate satisfies all the following conditions.
Award to the student who shows greatest competence in Economics at the Special Arts Degree Examination.
