I am currently a Professor in Economics in the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics (first class in the area of monetary economics) and a Master of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the National University of Singapore. I have been a Visiting Research Professor in the University of Waterloo in Canada, and a Visiting Senior Fellow in the Transylvania University in Romania. I was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts in University of Peradeniya from 2015-2021, I was also the Head of the Department of Economics and Statistics and the Chairman of the Higher Degrees committee who played a vital role in establishing the PGIHS. I was also a former Dean of the Faculty of Management of the Uva Wellassa University. I have published widely in international journals and have contributed to various policy research working papers, which have been published in prestigious platforms such as National Bureau of Economic Research Working Papers of USA and Center for International Governance Innovation Working Papers in Canada. My main research areas include applied macroeconomics, international trade and finance, free trade agreements, banking and finance, economic development, and institutional economics.
