I am Namali Kumari Handagama who is a senior lecturer currently working at the Department of Philosophy and Psychology of the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya. Having entered the university, I was selected for the Special Degree programme in the field of Philosophy and passed out from the university after obtaining the Special Degree with a second class upper division. Moreover, I was awarded the Prize for greatest competence in Philosophy. I joined the academic staff of the Department as an assistant lecturer. Initially, I taught on “Logic and Scientific Methods” for the first year students. I also lectured on “Greek Philosophy” and “Ethics” for the second year students who have enrolled for the special degree programme. While working as a probationary lecturer, I was able to complete my Master of Philosophy Degree (M. Phil.) in Philosophy. Thereafter, I was appointed as a senior lecturer at the same Department in 2001. It was during this time that the semester system was introduced to the Faculty of Arts, University of Perdeniya. Hence, we reorganized and restructured the courses and the syllabuses to suit the semester system by spending a considerable amount of time and effort. Gradually we were accustomed to the semester system.
