Inauguration of New Academic Year 2023 - Center for the Study of Human Rights (CSHR)


The new academic year of the Center for the Study of Human Rights (CSHR), University of Peradeniya for 2023 was started on 19th April 2023 at 10.30 am.




Mr. Maxime Blondel, Head, International Division, Rouen University, France visited the University of Peradeniya on 03/04/2023 under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Program


A presentation was conducted on 04/04/2023 regarding the Internaionaliization of Higher Education: Experience of the Roven University, Normandie, France by Maxime Blondel, Director / International Relations at the Seminar Room Faculty of Arts.




Developing Inclusive Education for students with disabilities (SWDs) in Sri Lankan Universities (IncEdu)


The Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania is a partner university of the Erasmus+ CBHE project “Developing Inclusive Education for students with disabilities (SWDs) in Sri Lankan Universities (IncEdu)”. A team of three members, Prof. Carmen Buzea, Prof. Arabela Briciu, and Prof. Victor Briciu from the Transilvania University visited University of Peradeniya on March 14 th ,2023 to obtain an assessment of the progress of the IncEdu project activities as they are responsible for the project quality planning and assurance. The three Professors paid a visit to the faculty’s newly renovated Special Needs Resource Centre and had discussions with some academic and non-academic staff members involved in teaching the SWDs to evaluate the progress of the project and achieve the objective of their visit.
Prof. Carmen Buzea, who is also the Vice-Rector for Research & IT, Transilvania University of Brasov and the team met and discussed about future collaborations with the Dean and members of the Faculty of Arts, Head and members of the Department of Sociology, Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Vice-chancellor of the University of Peradeniya.




R.K.W. Goonesekere Memorial Programme on Law and Justice 2023

Two events organized by the Department of Law, University of Peradeniya under the auspices of the RKW Goonesekere Memorial Endowment were held on 22nd February 2023 at the Seminar Room of the Faculty of Arts. The objective of the programme was to celebrate the legacy of late Deshamanya RKW Goonesekere, a remarkable legal academic, legal practitioner and a renowned defender of justice and rule of law in Sri Lanka. He was also the Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya from 2002 to 2007. The RKW Goonesekere Memorial Endowment established at the University of Colombo envisages that the programme rotates each year among public institutions of legal education, and the Department of Law of the University of Peradeniya was privileged with hosting the event this year. The distinguished speaker of the events was Mr. Saliya Peiris, President’s Counsel, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.



Visit of Dr. Laura Tedesco, Cultural Heritage for the U.S. Department of state's Program Manager Bureau of South and Central Asia of the Department of State


Visit of Dr. Laura Tedesco, Cultural Heritage for the U.S. Department of state's Program Manager Bureau of South and Central Asia of the Department of State will be accompanied by Ms. Kelly McCarthy. First Secretary, U.S. Embassy and Chamalie Weerasekera / Cultural Affairs Specialist. A discussion was held on 23rd February 2023 at 1430 hrs in the Conference Room of the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya on preserving cultural heritage in Sri Lanka and its Challenges. The main concern was centered on supporting U.S. Embassies across the region in identifying and guiding cultural preservation projects supported by the Dept. of State across South and Central Asia.
