Call for 'Expression of Interest'

The Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment and Sexual Violence (SGBHSV) Committee of the University of Peradeniya has decided to launch a program to appoint 'Gender Champions' from amongst the undergraduate student population at the University of Peradeniya. The main aims and purposes of this program are:

• To improve awareness of sexual and gender-based violence and gender equality among university students;
• To make students value and respect every person regardless of their sex and gender identities;
• To change attitudes and transform behaviors that advocate sexual and gender-based violence to achieve long-term sustainable social change within the university student community; and
• To encourage young people to advocate for gender equality and gender justice and to take ownership of an issue of importance to them.

In line with the above, the SGBV Prevention Committee of the Faculty of Arts is calling for expressions of interests from students of the Faculty of Arts, who are keenly interested in working towards and promoting the aims and purposes listed above. The term of a Gender Champion shall be for one year initially with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of three years based on performance. They will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Chairperson/SGBVC for successful contribution to the activities of the Faculty SGBVC.
